This guide is wonderful and I thank you all for the huge amount of work you put in to create it. It was of immense value to me after I had failed Exam 4 at Hilo Farm for the 4th time, after reading your walkthrough I sailed through it and wondered why I had found it so tough.

However, I have one little query about the guide - most of the graphics included are just black, there are only a few pictures of people, pests, etc. Is this right? I have downloaded the Guide 3 times now, and each time has been the same.

Nola, you shouldn't see any black graphics. I have googled your problem and unfortunately found nothing.
Which OS do you use? Vista? XP?
All graphics you can see, had been converted before I implemented into the guide. They are png-files, all other graphics are jpgs.
If we can't find a solution for your problem and Oleg will release a V1.024, I will convert all pictures in the new version of the guide.

Probably such problem with graphics can occurs if you disable pictures in internet explorer options.

I am still searching for a solution for Nola's problem. I have found several hints about outdated dlls... but that is not the right approach in this case.
Then I stumbled upon an article that described some problems with a security program (firewall). Due to this program all jpgs were displayed as black squares - jpgs were affected but no gifs and other picture formats like pngs. Nola, maybe you could check this?

When we will have found a solution for Nola's problem, I will write a list with all hints to the faqs we gathered so far. I will add Oleg's above mentioned hint, too, because it will help if you can't see a single picture but placeholders instead.

Thank you so much for attempting to resolve this. I am using Windows XP Prof SP2 with 1.5gb ram. I have checked IE and definitely have 'show pictures' turned on, although I only use IE for BFG games, Firefox 2 is my preferred browser. (I am a GAOTDer, didn't buy Magic Farm through BFG though.)

I have gone through the Guide again and here is where the black squares are - Under Basics of Farming/Pests - the only visible pest is the horned bug. Under Plants and Products/Pineapple - the Unique Pineapple plant is black, as are the Golden Pineapple and the Crystal Pineapple fruits below the plants. All other pineapple fruits/plants are visible as are all other products.

Under The Characters - Robin is the only visible character, and under the Game Credits the only thing visible on the page is 3/4s of the Magic Farm heading - the last quarter is blacked out.

I use Commodo Firewall and have gone through it, but can see nothing about images or PNG at all. However, I have an older laptop with XP Home SP2, and Comodo, it unfortunately doesn't have Magic Farm on it, but I installed the Guide and every picture is visible. So it is obviously something on the new laptop different to the old. Therefore, you don't need to worry about changing all the pictures, I will just fire up both laptops when I want to refer to the Guide while playing. Hopefully, having completed it twice (and needing to refer to the Guide both times) I should surely by now be able to get by without that ever so handy guide shouldn't I?

I can see from the old laptop that on the Game Credits page the Meridian 93 logo is blacked out, and what cute images of Oleg and Co!! I'm happy to have seen it all now. Again, thank you so much for the hard work of producing the Guide and for trying to help me now. It is really appreciated.

Problems opening and reading the guide?
Here are some solutions:

I can't open the downloaded zip file. What is a zip anyway?

To open and view the guide, you need an program to extract the data. You could download and try out the free 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/).


I am trying to unzip the guide, but I get an error message: "Error Reading the File."

It is possible that your unzipping tool can not read the files created by my zipping tool. Try to extract the guide with a second unzipper like 7-zip.
If this doesn't help, you could send me a pm and I will email you the uncompressed guide. But please choose an email account that doesn't block executable content, like Google Mail does.


I unzipped the guide, but get an error message when I open it:

One attempt to open the guide: Click on the icon inside the unzipping program (without unzipping it).

I can open the guide, but I can't see any graphics, just frames with an icon in the upper, left corner.

Open the Internet Explorer, go to "Extras" - "Internet Settings" and check "display graphics" (or whatever it is called).


I can open the guide, but I can't see the right side of the screen. I see "This program cannot display the webpage" message.

Right click on the chm file, choose "Properties", and down at the bottom choose "Unblock". The help file will be displayed as usual.
